GHOST TOWN DAGGETT

Far from sacred space and far from commercial interior photography - Daggett ... Daggett was not on the LeFever list of must see locations but happened to be a town stumbled upon by a wrong exit from the highway. But what a find. These photos were taken within the space as LeFever found it.

Here is a town now vacant, that was once the home to many families. A working town just past Barstow, Calif, heading East, Daggett was founded in the 1880s just after the finding of silver in mines nearby to the city. The city was named after the 1883 Lieutenant Governor of California, John Daggett.

A fascination of Lefever's is the consideration of the end of things. The full cycle of life. Amazed by dreams people pursue and the life cycle of those dreams. Daggett held the promise of silver mining, and later Borax mines, now lay wasted a century later: in the middle of nowhere.

Still, as of 2007, 228 people live in Daggett and according to statistics, the median home cost in Daggett (zip 92327) is $148,300. Home appreciation the last year has been -2.93 percent. Surely these shown here go for less.... Per capita income averages $16, 465.
